Yup... Dead wrong. I know the techs at my Indy. And more importantly they know me and how much I care about the car. The day it arrived on the transporter (had it delivered to the shop) I provided breakfast for the entire crew. Sometimes it is the little things.

Seattle -- about $250 -- but note that it includes a minor inspection of the vehicle. While it's up, they check the under carriage, lights, etc. I don't drive enough miles in a year to change the oil based on mileage, so I have it changed every Nov. as it gets cold -- so it has the thinnest, freshest oil as it goes into the cold months.

I don't mind paying a mechanic once a year to put the car on the lift, change the oil & check it out a bit before winter. Yes, I could change the oil myself, but I don't mind having someone who knows these cars well give it a once-over. Cheap insurance.

I pay about $300 for Oil, filter, air filter, cabin filter, and a few other minors like that. I use Motul 8100 5-40. I should also note he complete cleans interior and exterior of the car as well for that price. I don't have hte setup to do it myself, plus I like to have my guy look over my car, he does a 150 point inspection every time. I pay a lot to maintain my car, and it shows

My local dealer (Inskip Porsche in RI) charged me a bit over $200.

I was curious about those oil filter conversion kits for sale on places like Flat 6 - what exactly do they do? Do they allow you to use a regular screw-on oil filter vs. the cartridge type of filter? Any downsides to this? Is this a common mod - something I should consider? I was thinking of doing my own oil changes this summer, and if this makes life easier I will definately consider getting one.

Thanks for any info on this!

i don't know about these filter conversions. i find factory canister is easy and cleaner and filter kit comes with new o-ring and drain plug washer. oil change is quite straight forward - definetly give it a go. make sure your pan is large enough, and cut open the filter to have a look.

$140 = one hour labor (includes filter inspection)
$ 16.50 = Filter
$ 96.75 = Shell Helix 5w40
Plus Wa Tax - Total $277.31
And I am fine with that because I trust my Indy to do a good job and I can talk to the guys who work on it about my concerns, issues what ever and see the interest they take in my 996.
