2001 C4 PCM/ Navigation
Hello,
I have a 2001 C4 that I purchased in Colorado. It has PCM / Navigation and I received 2 DVD's with it; USA Map 2 , Northwest / Southwest 2001-1 S0006-0112-102 and 2003-1 S0006-0112-301. I live in NYC and CT so these do not work. I then purchased an East DVD 2002-1 S0006-112-210 from Ebay from a reliable seller. However, the East DVD does not work when I load it in (it says Error Reading DVD). The 2 DVD's that I received with the car don't indicate a map but they do 'register' on the screen; the arrow moves along with the car when driving.
Can someone advise on how this system works and why the East DVD (model 2002-1) does not read while the other DVD's 2001-1 and 2003-1 seem to read and register but of course do not provide a map as expected?
Also the car has new codes, the old one was from 2001 and new ones are 2003, if this has any relevance. Thanks to anyone that can assist.

I would imagine your car has PCM 1.0, which I believe is a CD-based system, not DVD-based. Hopefully the seller sent you CDs and not DVDs. I don't think Porsche switched to DVDs until PCM 2.1.
When I updated the maps on PCM 2.0 in my Cayenne, I had to update the PCM firmware as well as the maps. There was a seperate disc for this. You may also have the update included on one of the discs that were sent. For PCM 2.0, the update starts automatically when you insert the disc. Not sure about PCM 1.0...

As Dennis pointed out, your car likely uses a set of 3 CDs (NE, SE and West) -- not a DVD.
If you want to confirm the version of PCM in your car there's a simple set of instructions in the manual that explains how to easily do it. I'd grab it myself but my car and I are separate by about 5,700 miles right now. Once you have the right discs, the maps should load right up.

Thanks Sue & Dennis, They are CD's, do not know why I referred to them as DVD's... I do not have the instructions or manual to confirm the version so if any one can send them over or if someone else can it would be appreciated. but if it is PCM 1.0 why would the disc from 2003-1 S0006-0112-301 load up, or is that 0112 refers to PCM 1.0 (don't know how to decipher these codes).....

Thanks.... so is my current CD, East 2002-1 S0006-112-210, is that for PCM 2.0 / 2.1 or is it for PCM 1.0, which I believe is my system...so do I have the wrong CD? or is there additional CD that I need in order for this East CD to work?

Greetings!
Did you ever discover a solution to your Nav dilemma? I'm experiencing the same issue with my 2002 996TT.

There is no solution for US cars. European cars can use the modern Vauxhal CDs are they are compatible with Navteq system in our cars. I have MY2002 car with PCM1 16 bit system and Cali/Nevada map only. Navteq no longer supports this system, CDs from other makes do not work. I tried buying the Navteq CD for BMW and Lincoln from the same year to see if our system would read them, it was a no-go.
Ebay is your best bet on getting the CD for your specific region. I believe there were total of 8 CDs for PCM 1 16 bit system. There is a thread on the 996 TT forum about someone having the DIN files for the CDs. I IMed that person, still have not received the response.
When you are looking on Ebay, you NEED only the PCM 1 16 BIT CD. Other CDs will not work, as they are for PCM 2 or 3.
