Default Transmission compatibility between MKI & II 996

I am looking for a replacement transmission while I am tackling the rebuild on my 6-speed on the 2000 996.

There is plenty on offer on fleabay, but am concerned about compatibility between the years. I hear of short and long nose.

Any comments are appreciated.

They are interchangeable. I used to have a MKI car that needed an engine. Upgraded to a 3.6L from a MKII and kept the original MKI trans. Later I needed a transmission and got a MKII trans and bolted that in. If there were any differences it was addressed in swapping mounts from the old trans, really can't remember it has been a few years.

The 01 mount is a stronger mount and easy to change versus the earlier one which required a press. Same gear ratios though the 01 has allegedly been strengthened in some areas. I have a brand new 01 sitting in it's crate in my garage just waiting for my 00 to blow. Since I installed a cooler 2 years ago the 00 has been perfect....

So guys, is there a need to update the clutch and clutch release lever to the 996.2 spec as well if I was to replace my G96-00 with a G96-01 ?

Many thanks for clarifying that for me, I'd heard conflicting opinions on this.

Thankyou.

I think it was late 2001 when Porsche added an additional bearing to the input shaft for better support & reduced gear rattle noise.
