Hi everyone! So excited to finally have purchased my dream car :-) I have been lurking here for a few months just feeling things out and gathering info.

I had been seriously looking to pull the trigger on a Carerra C2 for about a year prior to my lurking amongst the shadows here. Well, Nov 11th I pulled the trigger and could NOT be any happier What an amazing machine this is to drive. She is Arctic Silver w/gray int, silver faced guages, 6-Spd, Pioneer touchscreen with ipod connector and bluetooth. new alpine speakers throughout with amp and crossovers mounted in the trunk. Not sure of the type/brand of muffler eliminators installed but it has an exhaust note to die for! LOL

I have not done any mods to it except install new19x8.5 and 19x10 Moda wheels in satin silver and polished lips, and Continental Extreme Contact DW tires. They look great and the tires perform great handling everything I have thrown at them with ease. The car had Champion 19x8.5 and 19x11 at TOP. The rears rubbed on the inner fender well and it drove me crazy as well as the amount of difficulty to give them a thorough cleaning. Yes, the cleaning is petty but i'd rather be driving than cleaning wheels for 2+ hours.

I still have a lot of questions and hope to learn many things from the resident experts here.

BTW: is it really that difficult to do your own oil change on this car?

Welcome to Rl. Changing oil in the 996 is easier than changing oil in almost every other vehicle I have owned. Easy access to both filter and drain plug. Only caution I offer is to remember the drain plug is aluminum so make sure you use the right size wrench and don't strip it out. Same goes for re-installing... don't over torque. Depending on your level of experience, the 911 is no different than working on any other vehicle. It is simply a machine. Lots of good info if you do a search here and over on Rentech for DIY stuff. Dive in and enjoy in good health.

 

Agreed, the 1st oil change seems intimidating, but it is easy to do and well worth doing. You probably already know that the oil will come out 'fast', so have the right oil drain pan handy or you'll be cleaning up lots of spilled engine oil. I've done a number of small repairs/replacements on my 99' with the help of the forum, and will most likely do more. Welcome.

Welcome. I agree with all above and would add that i suggest replacing your oem drain plug with the magnetic anodized one from LNEngineering. It's made of stronger material and uses a larger wrench, so it's less likely to strip.

Taken today w/ wheels and tires installed.

Congratulations Arctic is awesome. As for the oil change, I just did the first oil change of my life (that's right) on my 03 Targa. It went really well. There's a youtube Diy video which makes it very simple.


Follow all the advise from RL members as well, and make sure you get a good oil filter cover removal wrench. I bought a cheap 74/76 mm Aluminum one and it kept slipping. Finally got it. I'll buy a new one before I do it again.

ok, that makes me feel a lot more at ease. I was thinking something really technical had to be done... Unless there are special Porsche tools needed for something later down the road I believe my mechanical background can figure it out.
