RUSTY Wheel Lugs ...

In the UK, where corrosion of wheel bolts is severe, Porsche supplier DESIGN911uk <sales@design911.com > supplies lug bolts made from chromed SCM440 alloy steel which has corrosion resistance close to 304 S/S and has stress corrosion resistance to grade 440 steel, made by DesignTek in Europe. Cost is about $150 for 20. I've bought many things from them and they are very professional.
I fitted a set of slightly longer Design Tek wheel lugs (I've got 5mm spacers) now with nearly 20,000km on them and when I checked them 2 months ago during my major service, no corrosion, galling or cracks could be seen. Very happy with the polished look.

Dresler,
I could not have justified a cost of $600. Fortunately, mine were much less than that. A RL'er wanted Ti bolts but didn't want to pay $600. He found a company to make them, but to keep the cost lower, the minimum order was 10 sets. He sold the extra sets. At the end, he sold the last 2 or 3 sets at a heavily discounted price. I was fortunate enough to get a set.

I bought it on 9/3/11 with 2,945 miles on the clock. I how have 7,083 miles on her. So about 4,000 miles on 3 months.
Mods:
- Sharkwerks by pass pipes - these replace the stock center (3rd) muffler. It was w-a-a-y too quiet.
- PSE installed by local dealer - AWESOME! <== me when I fire her up.
- Ti lug bolts - should arrive next week.
That's it so far.
Mods I am considering:
- Porsche OEM Sport Shifter (a.k.a. Short Shifter)
- Have been thinking about painting the stock Carrera S II Meteor Gray to match the car. While I am not really a painted wheel guy, the Big Red Brakes spew brake dust all over the wheels if you just look at them. Much more brake dust than my '04 996 ever had.
- Rear Center console - two options:
o Painted - I would have Eric at Bumperplugs do this in Meteor Gray to match the car.
o Leather - I would have Classic 9 Leather Shop do this in Stone Gray Leather[/INDENT]
That's about it for now, but I am sure some other things will pop up and tempt me!

So seriously, in what ways is it better than the 996? For those of us with many miles, someday will come when we will need to choose between having to rebuild the engine, or replace the entire car. Your answer is extremely important, as it will influence decisions made by all of us here in the lowly 996 forum at Rennlist.

Dresler, I decided your question deserved a new thread, so I started one titled Confessions of a 997.2 owner... or in what ways is it better than the 996?

39 posts on this and nobody mentioned chrome lug bolts?
I bought these from Boothe Design 8-9 years ago and they're fabulous. The quality is impeccable.
