I don't really care about attention or wow factor, if I did I would have considered an orange or electirc blue RS4..LOL
It depends. How old are you? (mentally, not physically).

I should probably put this explanation in my profile. "Sue Esponte" is a play on the latin phrase "sua sponte." I started using it as a joke among friends ages ago (probably back in the '90s) and I've just kept using it out of habit (probably a bad one).

Nice Saabs but neither wouldn't touch my R out of the box.

And, none of our cars would touch my friend's Legacy GT (which is putting out about 500hp to the wheels)...but that's kind of beside the point when it comes to the RS4. So, if you've got a tricked out wagon and sedan (both of which are sleepers), what's the real appeal of the RS4?

I actually briefly considered picking up an RS4 Cabrio instead of my C4S (since I was in the market for a convertible) but the Porsche has a different appeal to me. I chose it for reasons having nothing to do with the RS4...other than the fact that the RS4 just isn't a 911. If it were me, and I was itching to replace my C4S with a sedan, I'd be looking at an e60 M5. The growl of a 500hp V10 will make you get over any questions you might have about its styling.

I don't think you will be disappointed by an RS4 as long as you know it's a completely different animal than your C2; and it sounds like you know that already. If you follow your heart you won't go wrong. Good luck!

Eric...FYI...I owned a ipd C70 before and your S60R is not even close to a Stage 3 or 4 tuned saab....LOL
I been a Saab fan for about 10years and had always wanted a Porsche and since I had the 996 for almost 5years, I love it and always will.
As some of you have said, I can always come back to one if I get board with the RS4. I guess will see, sleep on it and keep the advice coming.

I'm not sure what owning an ipd C70 has to do with anything. You're comparing apples and oranges. Who cares?

Best of luck with whatever you choose.

You stated you had always wanted a Porsche and had yours for 5 years. Now you want an Audi.

What I'm hearing is that you are not really a P-car guy. That's fine, nothing wrong with that. Get the Audi with no regrets.

You wanted a Porsche, you tried it, liked it and now want to try something else for your pleasure vehicle. With so many models of cars out there, there are a lot of good choices. A brother has 2 late model Audis and an extended warranty is a must. Funky and very expensive things go wrong with these cars.

One thing I know for sure....the Porsche users on here is so much more helpful and responsive than the Audi guys over at 6speed forum. I had one response...LOL

You think that the Audi enthusiast would be all over it telling me to trade in my 996 for an RS4.

Jake, keep the aero man. Driving a Porsche is way more visceral and rewarding....

Dresler, what's the story with the aero bits on your 4S?

lol I won't...and you can relax. I'm a guy and my wife sees cars as appliances. I'm just lucky she understands that they're important to me.

The rs4 was definitely my favorite audi aside from the r8s. I'll give you some practical (and honest) advice from a former audi salesman:

If you need trunk space, passenger room, comfort, or ridiculously awesome awd, go Audi.
If you want something for raw and visceral fun, keep the C2.

I'm sure you know that the RS has the lovely high-revving v8 which is a completely different beast from the normal S4, and the car looks amazing and grips well (I set a test drive record for a particular on-ramp with a speed of 72 that was only broken once the r8 v10 came out, the v8 tied), but to me it feels a lot more detached and aloof, lacking some of that passion the porsche has. Servotronic steering assist kills a lot of the joy, and the B7 platform (and the B8) still has that nasty tendency to understeer at the limit and plough off course (ask me how I know...).

That said, some people walk into the showroom and you know right away that their hearts are set on a car that they will not leave without, and judging by your writing, I feel like you may fit that category.

So I recommend, in the fashion of many of those before me, that you sideline all the advice you got here (including mine) and go with your gut and do what makes you happy, whether its getting the RS4 or keeping the C2. Good luck with your decision!
