Default Upper console refit

Greetings R'Listers. I have to install cupholders in my 2000 996 before I get divorced over it. So, the question is my rearrangement plan. I will remove the CD tray and the equalizer thing from the bottom. I will then move the air con control to the bottom slot where the equalizer thingy is. Question for the slot where the CD tray was: Do I need a lower cubby or upper cubby? Also, are there any trim pieces that I may need to source?

This is a pic of my current configuration just for reference.

Why not try something like this. Haven't tried it, but looks somewhat invisible and easy.

search "cup holder" in this forum and there will be a ton more options/opinions.

good luck!

If you're gonna divorce over cup holders, might as well get it over with.... The IMS will def put the marriage under.

Get the upper cubby if you place it in the CD spot. You will need a different trim piece for the cupholder when placed in the spot where your HVAC control now lives. Your current trim is rectangular. You new trim will have a mild triangular taper to match the cupholder if I recall ( I did the console delete a while back). Bought my trim pieces on Ebay. Believe the cubby can be purchased new from Suncoast or Sunset. You may look for trim pieces there as well.

I have those... they are loose and "dance around". Practical but not cool...

Yep, I would go with the divorce now. Forget the cup holders and go with a nice new suspension or some Cargraphic mufflers, or some new wheels, or, or, or........:-)

I forgot to add when I removed the cupholders during the console delete, I got a floor cup holder from Autozone. Much more secure and handles most cup sizes.

I used these and was very happy - much easier solution than moving things around and they were very secure.

I forgot about those. They may be a very viable option.

This Autozone cup holder is very stable on the floor. Easy to reach. The mug will not fall over or break off the vent. I believe it was less than $20 and matches my gray interior.
