Default Lower engine 2 inches for coolant tank instal?

Does anyone know where I can find how to lower the engine 2 inches to install a new coolant tank? I know it's the engine mounts but where are they.
Thank you very much.

Engine mounts. Two of them. Can't miss em. Big huge studs with bolts on the end. In the rear corners of the engine bay. Remove the airbox and you'll see two large saucer shaped things. Those are the top of the mounts. The other side are the nuts you can loosen. Don't loosen them past the threads otherwise you'll have a big expensive mess on your hands.

Before you loosen those bolts. DO make sure you support the engine from underneath safely (i.e. from the case joining "nub" with a jack). Don't stick a floor jack directly under the engine sump pan.

"Now, looking toward the back of the car just behind the oil sump cover in the center of the engine case centerline there is an area where the case is very sturdy looking. That is where you place the jack. Notice that it is centered on the sturdy area, and not touching the sump cover.
If you are still unsure, just look at the centerline seam of the engine case behind the sump cover, find the thickest portion of the case just behind the sump cover, and put your jack there." Thanks to Orient Express

Cory,

There is no need to drop the engine. I was successful this weekend just by loosening the fuel lines that are in the way and removing the air pump. IN addition, I loosened that big hose that connects to a metal pipe which kept getting caught during the removal process.

Just after installing the IMS Guardian, I went to get gas and there was coolant leaking over the left exhaust onto the ground. Crap! Anyway I ordered a new tank from Sunset Porsche. Mine is a MY '03. It has the larger and less expensive tank. Cars with the smaller tanks (older than mine) are easier to install. I think the cars with the larger tank require lowering the engine. But, I hope not.

dennis if it does, its so easy even I can do it...take about 2 minutes a socket and a jack...although if you dont remove the nuts too far you dont even need the jack (but good idea either way)

I vote for the girlie pics, if it's worth anything at this point.

And yes lowering the engine is really something you could train a monkey to do. The jack is insurance that the monkey does not create a big mess. It really is worth it to get a couple extra inches, even 1 inch and your hands will thank you.

Why do shops say it takes five hours to do a coolant take exchange? Everybody in this forum it seems can do it in about a one hour in the garage. Thanks

The 3.4 litre cars can be done without lowering the engine. The 3.6 litre cars can also apparently, but I've done 2 now and I can't see how.

It is a b*tch of a job, don't be thinking otherwise. It's a lot of working blind and it's *real* tight.. The second time is easier of course.

Very important!!! - When you tighten the motor mounts up after you aare done, make sure the mounts are seated against the chassis.

Good luck.

I agree. It can be done but mine(99) was so tight, no room and lots of scraped knuckles, and more than an hour to do. Pete....pics?
