Default Steering feel C2 vs. C4-Q?

hey guys, just test drove a 997 C2S and comparing it to my 996 C4S the steering on the C2 felt much 'lighter' than on my C4. is this a common difference because of the awd system on the C4 or more to do with the differences of the 997 vs. 996?

That's pretty much what everyone seems to say when they drive the two back to back. When I was looking for my C4 a number of people tried to talk me into a C2 very that very reason.

I am assuming that the difference you feel is 996 to 997 - I believe variable ratio power steering was introduced with the 997.1

The difference is the 4WD vs. the 2WD. That's all it is.

I have a 996 and a Cayman (which has the variable ratio steering rack). The Cayman's feel is no heavier or lighter than the 996's.

When I was looking for a 996 I was advised by someone in the trade that I would prefer a C2 because the steering was 'better'. Anyway I bought a C4S and I love it.

Interesting - perhaps it is just perception. I have both a 2004 C2 and a 2004 C4S and my perception is that the steering feel is lighter in the C4S. It was my initial perception and after some miles in the C4S my perception hasn't changed. Not that I have a preference, I enjoy driving each car equally.

Interesting. The general consensus has usually been that the C4's steering feel is "heavier" and a bit more secure feeling than the lighter, and maybe more flighty feeling of the C2. I wonder if your alignment settings in your two cars are such that the steering feel has been altered somewhat. Caster and camber have an effect on steering feel.

Thanks - The C4S had new rear tires and a four wheel alignment performed by a Porsche dealer a few hundred miles before I bought it but it is probably worth having both cars checked for alignment.
