Default accident--some questions!!!

hi fellows, someone hit my car at a stop sign few days ago. the right side muffler pushed inside about 1", and the rear bumper has little scratch. please see the picture.
So the other party's insurance will pay me a total of $2400 for this accident.(rear bumper $990, right muffler $650, tip $150, labor $450, etc) I want to know why they are not going to pay me the painting cost? i will ask them tomorrow.
Does anybody know if the 2005 997.1 muffler will fit the 2002 996 model?
thanks

that is a very strange way for the ins co to say..here...we are done

there is no way of knowing whats wrong INSIDE until the cover is off and someone with some know how looks at it - we talk about this constantly

must be repaired to Porsche standards - WITH Porsche FACTORY parts and painted with Porsche paints using Porsche approved methods, all repairs have to be inspected be authorized Porsche repair tech...and on and on....

they are trying to get you paid and done..."a few days ago" and they have a claim check ready for you...I dont think so!!!

your car could be down for a month or longer to be repaired correctly - rental car?

not offering to paint? AWE Hello?????

anyhow - put on your big boy boots and go kick some a$$, get some help if needed, dont settle - dont even talk to the rat bastards before the have finished the work at a shop YOU choose!!

Take it to the body shop you want to take it to and get a real estimate for to do the repairs properly. The insurance co wants you to settle now for the $2400. If you take it you will be responsible for any extra costs that it will take to repair.

Good advice, be sure that damage unseen or unchecked is signed off by a Porsche tech. so it doesn't bite you later because nobody looked.GL

Do not accept that settlement! Estimates are just that. Call your local Porsche dealer and get the name od their shop. That will cover the body and paint repair estimate. But you also want the dealer to inspect the damage and estimate exhaust repair cost + whatever else is damaged.

It has to be disassembled to ascertain the extent of the damage.

I see little reason for you to settle up front unless you have ability to do it cheaper than by official Porsche techs. I would not do a cash settlement as you then bear the risk of it being more expensive, let them pick up the bill after the work is done, the risk should be on their behalf, not yours.

You're in CA. You can take the car to any shop you want. You are entitled to have the car repaired to its pre-collision condition, as good as humanly possible.

Given the relatively minor damage the car can be repaired just fine, unless you agree to and accept a low ball hurry up offer by the insurance company.

But even if you do not accept the insult of an offer you must select the right shop to repair your car. Look for a Porsche Approved Collision Center. Ask your local dealers for a recommendation but be sure they point you to a PACC shop.

The car will have to have its rear bumper cover removed and the extent of the damage estimated.

The exhaust system probably suffered some damage that may not be straightened out and the system will have to be replaced.

My advice is to forego trying to fit different MY exhaust systems/etc to the car. Instead focus on getting the car repaired back to its pre-collision condition.

Then afterwards if you want to mod the car, you have at least a properly fixed car from which to start and you have the factory parts that go with the car should you want to go back to factory at some point.

Macster.

UPDATE..........
Thanks Macster, i just called Mckenna Porsche which i did some repair jobs over there before. they told me the factory bumper cost $1865 alone, not including painting and tax...
so i need to fight back regarding the estimate cost the insurance sent to me last week.
thanks again guys!!

I would look at your bumper again. I would bet you have a lot of spider cracks in the paint too.

Sorry to hear of this.....With that damage I bet your headers are bent as well. You need to have the body shop of your choice dissasemble before accepting a dollar amount for repair.
