Need help with 997 Lobster Forks on a 996 Carrera 4
Hello everyone,
I was interested in putting on a set of 19" Lobster Forks on a 2001 Carrera 4... does anyone know:
1) what size spacers I will need for the front and rear and also,
2) what tire sizes and
3) tire pressure I should be using?
4) Also, what is the with of the wheels themselves?
The reason I ask is that with all wheel drive cars, keeping tire diameter the same is crucial in order to not burn out the differential (I am sure that all of you already know that).
Thanks in advance.

Can I suggest you use the search feature in the upper right? Tons of info. Go to Tirerack for tires sizes.
I would also add more info to your post. What are part #'s of the wheels...19 x what? Offsets? Your questions are too broad.

I have tried searching the forum first, however there seems to be conflicting information as to the spacer sizes, & not much on tire pressure
The wheels I am looking at are off on a 2008 Carrera 4
Front wheels are 19 x 8.5, rear wheels are 19 x 11.
The offsets are 56 front and 51 rear.
The front tires are 235/35 ZR 19 and the rear tires are 295/30 ZR 19. I also visited Tirerack and they had suggested the same size for the front tires, but they had suggested 275/30's for the rear.
When I compute the sizes on an online revolution per mile calculator, it is 816.6 to 801.2 (for the 295/30's) as opposed to 816.6 to 816 (for the 275/30's)...
Is this too much of a difference for the viscous differential on the '01 (I know the 2008 has a different type)?
Also, I have heard of problems with using 19 inch wheels on 996's... should I just stick with 18's?

Have you seen these calculators?
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
This has a ton of info..........http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp
Also for offsets, you should be able to look at your existing wheel offsets and subtract the offset from the new wheel. That should be your spacer requirement right?

Yes, 18" are better for 996. But IMO 11x19" ET51 should be a direct fit at rear. At least with 285's. I'm running 11x18" ET55 with 295/30-18 MPSC's. Fronts are 8x18 ET45 ( +5mm spacer ) with 235's.

your 01 c4 is a narrow body car right?
and those wheels 8.5 in the front? sound wide to me ... IIRC narrow body MKI's had 7.5 stock and 8 optional wheels????
11's in the rear should fit I think OK
as for aspec ratio the calculators can give circumference and you can simple do a little math to see if they are the same ratio which is what you are asking
if the front circ is 79 rear and 75 front devide - 1.0533
so it the "new ones" are 83 r and 76 front - 1.092
I say NO
but if they are
83 and 79 - 1.0506 I say OK
but what do I know
