ECU tune for $516 - what do you think?
I saw this on 6speed - http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...u-upgrade.html
With the 20% discount, it's $516 plus shipping of course. From everything I've read, a flash for our cars is not the best spend, but at this price it might be worth a shot.
Opinions?

Engine, at its simplest term, is an air pump. If you don't free up the intake and exhaust, there will be minimal benefits with any tune. Make sure both ends can accommodate the new tune and you will be happy.

Hmmm, very tempting. I would do my research on these guys.........just to make sure they've been around for a while. My understanding, on a stock, N/A engine you will see a small increase in "grunt" which could make the ECU flash worth while. As you know the leaders, are GIAC, EVoms and Softronic are all very experienced and reputable. A couple of club memebers have had their Caymans flashed (Softronic) and they love the difference.
However, if you intend to do engine work/mods, you should do them first, because you would need to have the ECU re-flashed, after the mods. Find out what the charge would be for the 2nd re-flash, if that is where you might be headed. GL. Let me know what you think, if you have the ECU flashed.

I had my ECU flashed and could notice it. It's not like day and night, just a bit quicker all around. I'd go for it for that price, I paid around $850 and consider it worth it. Make sure it's a flash that allows a complete restore to your original in case you want or need to go back.

I pm'd the vendor on 6speed. I'd be interested for that price to see what the results would be. If anyone has info on the vendor, please post up .
Cheers, Ed.

You can see my response in the original thread. Vendor has yet to post any recent real dyno's of both 3.4 and 3.6 motors with specifics(dyno info, temp, smoothing, back to back testing, etc).
Dyno's posted are from somewhere in Germany back in 2007. Their site also caters to the masses and not just Porsches which has me skeptical as well on their in depth knowledge.

I don't trust anyone to tune a car who isn't an experienced vendor with that particular make of vehicle. It's easy to throw away good money on a bad tune. Anybody with the right experience can dial more power out of an engine through the ECU...but at what consequence?

Yea, I replied to that chain and after a few non-descript responses I asked for more specific information and specs on what the tune "did" and was told basically sorry can't tell you. Really? So I would be warry.
I don't really believe you can tune much on a n/a anyway.

my flash is a Softronic flash, and they only do Porsche. My indy guy did tons of research and that's why I went with Softronic. I also like that they have a program to completely restore the original ECU should you need to put that back on for warrantee inspections etc...
