The picture in question was taken at a Porsche event where they lined up a 993, 997 and new 991 to highlight lineage. Excellence simply ran the image in the 991 article and noted the missing 996. The editor of Excellence often mentions that his favorite Porsche to drive in the 996 GT3.
No, the Porsche kool-aid is to strong for that... I meant, in jest, my Excellence subscription. Much love for the crew at Excellence so wouldn''t cancel it no way no how.
Geez, all this angst seems a bit silly. I have taken my 996 to many track days and other events and never, not once, have felt snubbed by anyone in the P-car community. Anyone who would do so would not be worth hanging with anyway.
Same experience with my 944 and 968. Just people who love cars and driving. Not concerned about jewelry or status. I know very good drivers who sling 924's around the track pretty quickly.
Much ado over headlights. But, hey, they made the car affordable to a trombone player (insert joke here).

Agree. I have never experienced anything but a friendly welcome from the PCA/Porsche crowd - and before the 996 I had front engined water cooled Porsches, the ultimate heresy.

Add another one to the list. I've had the two models most likely to generate the most disrespect (a 944 S2 and a 996) and have never heard anything but positive comments from any fellow Porsche owner.
This is between 3 different PCA regions that I've been a part of - Pocono, Northern New Jersey, and Carolina.
