Apologies all 996'ers...this was supposed to be in the "why did you buy Porsche thread" in the 993 section. My PC hiccupped in the middle, and somehow it went here....
Oh… I’ve got a 993, this old never happen with a lowly 996…(spoken with a clenched jaw and as*…)
BTW - the name of the thread should be: “why did you overpay for your clearly inferior 993?”
The “‘80’s” was the era of Gordon Gecko, “greed is good” & “conspicuous consumption”… Porsche somehow became a symbol of that even though close to 80% of them ever built are still on the road today, and continue to hold their value (some/many even appreciate) - that’s a value proposition if you ask me!
At least now you know how your neighbor feels about your Porsche… I’d say he’s a little jealous…
Sure was an incredibly fun decade with economic growth, the unleashing of global capitalism and with owning a Porsche.
Quite frankly during that era, if you wanted a european sports car that stayed on the road and not in the shop, you bought a Porsche. Always loved the Italian sports cars but they were always in the shop. I learned my lesson with owning a Lancia.
