Default The Check Engine Light

Just came on in my 996. 155k miles and just had emissions checked and passed. Last oil change at 150k and good oil level. I have good oil pressure and temp. and appropriate volts. Engine sounds fine and runs fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Hows your air-filter?

Might want to get it scanned... pep-boys does it for free... write down the codes and get back to us.

And.......check to make sure the oil fill and gas caps are tight. When I first had my car I checked the oil. The car threw a CEL in 2 days and I took it to the dealer. It was a loose oil fill cap. Learned a lesson that day.

I checked the gas fill cap. The oil fill cap has not been touched since my last change at 150k, but I'll double check.

Thanks

With a code we'll be able to tell you why the CEL was thrown. Code readers are relatively chep unless you get the actual Porsche reader that also will erase/reset airbag codes.GL

As others said, without scanning the codes we're just guessing. If you checked the oil and gas caps you've basically done the easy stuff. Now it's time to scan.

In addition to pep boys as mentioned, most Autozone's and O'Reilly's will also read codes FOR FREE!

Go to Harbor Freight, OBD code reader less than $50, can read and clear codes. Amazingly easy to use.

I use the durametric which is nice to see everything going on with the car and it clears the codes.

It happens when people 'top off' their fuel when filling up. When the nozzle clicks off, stop because it's full enough. I imagine spirited driving with a full tank can do the same.
