For those of you who purchased the Fister Ds and own MKI(1999-2001) 911s, did you modify your stock 3.4 mufflers or did you switch to 3.6 cans?

I'm considering the Fisters for my 2000 Carrera however I am unsure as to which modded mufflers to choose, the 3.4s or the 3.6s. I've heard that the modded 3.4 mufflers do not sound as good as the modded 3.6 mufflers. Do the 3.6 cans fit the MK1 cars perfectly? Also, if the modded 3.6 cans sound better on the MKI cars , do the MKI(3.4L) cars with the modded 3.6 cans sound as good as the MKII(3.6L) cars with the modded 3.6 cans? I have not seen this last question asked/answered anywhere before.

Darin, if you read this thread can you please clarify these issues?

TIA for any responses.

technically 3rd owner of '16 C4S but for all intents and purposes, I'm the 2nd owner. Best decision of my life!

Are there any videos that demonstrate the "before and after" sound of a Fister muffler, preferably on a 996.1 with stock cats? I looked on Youtube, and all of them seem to have either no cat or modded cats, and no before & after comparison.

Here's the one I made

Regarding the OP's question. Mine were CLEAN + painted. I'm not sure if the paint is a standard practice but mine looked great. My original mufflers had some splitting/cracking that made them not suitable as a core - so Darin sourced a set for me. This is absolutely, hands down, the best thing I ever upgraded on my 996 and I would recommend it without hesitation. It's just so awesome.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video -- it's excellent. Great overview of the mod, excellent tips on bolt orientation for future access, and hugely helpful sound comparison.

I spoke to Will at Fister and he told me that my 2001 tip uses the 3.6 cans when they replace.
He was super knowledgeable and patient with my questions, but it seems that tiptronics get the 3.6s.

This thread and my conversation convinced me to pull the trigger.

Going back to the orginal question of the post. I'm planning on installing them this winter and am debating on wether or not to get the ceramic coating.

If you have them or are planning on ordering, did you get the ceramic coating?

I spoke to Darin specifically about this. He told me it was mostly cosmetic and would not affect the longevity either way. I didn't do it and mine have been on for over 10 years. Still makes me grin every time I fire her up!

Best mod ever!
