my autocross weekend
Hey guys, I did an autocross over the weekend with my girlfriend.
I thought I would post the video for your viewing pleasure. This and many others are located in the Perf. & Comp Autocross forum under the "auto-x video" thread.
My first run in this video got FTPax and 3rd fastest Raw time for the day.

Runways dont make for the most creative course design, but damn that was a really fast autocross course.
It was interesting how much shuffle steering was going on. I figured the steering ratio wasn't bad. I never know what I do with my hands, so ill have to pay attention next time I codrive my dads car. I was really surprised when I drove that my thumbs were getting a bit roughed up from the stitching on the steering wheel, so perhaps I was shuffling a lot. Never worn driving gloves before, but perhaps a good thing for his car.
Good videos!

Despite the 65mph spots there were also a couple of really tight, slow parts that did require the shuffle steering. I also learned to shuffle a lot so I do it when sometimes it isn't necessary.

Nice video, thanks for posting.
Where was this autox, an abandoned airfield? I like the open design of the course which allows higher speeds than the average autox.
I've done several autoxs in my area with various cars(including a couple in a 996) and the courses are always too small and cramped to achieve speeds which make the events exciting. This is especially true if you attempt to autox in a capable high HP car like the 996. Autocrossing the 996 always gives me the thought that I have brought a gun to a knife fight. It's more than a little frustrating.

This was at an "outlying landing field" the Navy owns on the outskirts of Jacksonville. It's used for training mostly, so when they aren't using it on the weekends they let the SCCA use it. There is also an RC airplane club that is usually at the other end of the runway too.
It NC with the Tarheel sports car club we ran a lot of airstrips too, like in Laurinburg, Sanford, and Danville and even once at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
