Default 996 40th

Thinking of adding another P-Car to fleet. From the posts I've seen a 40th is the best 996 other than TT. Give advice on finding a cpo car, or wtb maint. coverage for ims/rms issues. 951 is too much trouble, will leave basically stock. Need new toy.

I prefer the C4S over it, so I'm not sure I would classify it as "The best 996 other than the TT"

Nice thing about the 40th is that they are fully loaded (some have nav others don't). They have more HP that everyone is trying to get. Close to the 997 cars. Somewhat rare and GT silver is beautiful in the sun. I just sold mine with almost 70k and only had a few issues. Throwout bearing and 6 months later the AOS. Not fun. Other than that loved the car. Now I have a 997TT and it is GT silver too. Apples and Watermellons when is come to power between the two. I thought my 40th was fast. WRONG. Just don't drive a TT and you will be OK. AWD is a wierd thing to get use to. Lot of torque streer in my TT.
Good luck!!

Agreed on the C4S. X-51 package is nice but does the anniversary designation make it the best? Love the wider hips on the C4S

GT3 is by far the best 996, then TT, then C4S, 40th ann, C2, c4. Thats my order anyway, I am sure others differ.

I would take the 40th over a C4S. 1)AWD serves little benefit to most, but wide body looks great. 2) X51 motor is much sweeter than the M96. I drove my car, a 40th, and a 2005 997 back to back. My favorite of those three was the 40th. That motor loves to rev and felt much snappier than the M96 or the 2005 997. That was 1.5 yrs ago and the 40th prices are higher today.

I was looking at c4s till I discovered the 40th. Was sold on the lsd, x51, paint, and stock wheels. Love the wide body look on the c4s but don't need awd in southern ca and don't care for the stock rims. For me the 40th was the better car.

The C4S was recently named by GT Porsche magazine as the 996 that is most likely to become a classic by Porsche standards. It was compared to the 1973 Carrera S 2.2!

The nav from that generation is actually more of a detriment than a benefit - it's painfully obsolete by today's standards and really dates the car. You're better off to have a Becker deck that you can easily replace.

That being said, I don't think you could go wrong between a 40th and a C4S. Good luck and have fun shopping!

I would like to read that... is it a recent mag? or is it possible to find the same text on the net?

Yes,I love hips. Added weight and complexity. Hard to find w/leather interior,x-51,etc. The funny thing is I don't care for silver cars,go figure.

I didn't think the nav was to bad but I also had the 2007 updated discs. Yes, it does not have touch screen or bluetooth but I added a dension with a 32 gig flash drive.
