Default Can coils for a 997 be used on a 996?

I'm helping my pop out with a 996 question.

"I am changing the spark plugs and coils (the old ones are all cracked) on my car and the vendor sent me the coils for the 997. All the numbers are the same with the exception of the 996/997 designation on the coils."

His - 996.602.102.00
The one they sent - 997.602.102.00

Can he use the 997 coils on his 996?

His car - 2003 C4S

I have three of them installed on my car right now for about the past 2 years (in fact I just removed and reinstalled them after reinstalling my engine yesterday).

Yes. Further, Porsche will frequently "change" part numbers when the newer parts are backward compatible, have been better engineered, etc. Also remember the 997.1 3.6L engine is largely the same one in his 2003 996.2.
