I thought mine was missing too. There isn't a cover over the cabin filter

The good news is turning off the AC for 30 seconds works to keep out the stinky smell. But I still want to figure out why its happening. Awesome advice so far guys, thanks!

Besides which in our cars the heater core is ALWAYS at engine coolant temperature, no modulation or shut off to coolant flow.
