Default Plug In Accessories in Cigarette Lighter Outlet

Anyone have issue's plugging in TomTom's and other like devices in the cigarette lighter and getting a secure fit? I've blown to 2 15amp, required amp, fuses every time a device is plugged in. The devices work fine in other vehicles.

Am I missing something?

redridge....any idea where to get that spacer sleeve? Would be much appreciated.

My Valentine 1 works fine with it, but the Garmin has issues.

didn't someone fabricate an adapter out of some 1/2 or 3/4 copper plumbing pipe?
had to file the inside a bit for a good fit if iirc.

Strange that mine works nicely for everything I've ever plugged in. 2 different phone chargers, ipod and 300w invertor for the laptop.

I'm thinking the on and off condition from lose contact with current is what blows the fuzes. When stuff starts flying around the car is pretty much when the plug would we altering the contacts state. Good luck with converting the socket.

If you decide to replace the cigarette lighter with the "kit" make sure you read the DIY. It can be tricky to remove the old one and install the new one. The way the plastic pieces fit together is not obvious.

I bought 2 of these from www.meritline.com for my 99 911 cab. The connection is larger and it fits snugly in the lighter socket. I connect my GPS, cellphone, and MP3 w/o any issues. Unit has 3 sockets and a USB charging connection as well. Here is the link.
