Default 2002 C4s Sway Bar Links gone bad

Ok, guys and gals. I'm semi new to the 911 (about 6 months). I haven't done much wrench turning but between my buddy who is a car nut and myself, we are wondering if new sway bar links are a difficult job as a DIY. My shop diagnosed the right front to be bad after I have had some not so nice noises coming from up front. They quoted me approx. $360 labor and parts to do both fronts. First question, how is that price. Second question is how would this job be as a diy and where to get parts. Pelican? Anything specific to look for, ie cheap links vs good links. thanks in advance for any help you can be.

I did mine over the winter and I'm pretty sure I got them from Pelican for about $40 each. Pretty easy if you have a good socket set, preferrably 1/2" and some open end wrenches. I don't recall if you'll need a hex to hold the lower nut in place as it's pretty typical for that setup. You may need two jacks so you can aleviate the pressure too.

There is probably a write up on the Renntech forums.

Overall it's a very easy job. If you can change your oil or do brakes, you can do this no problem.

Take the labor fee and buy some tools if you don't have them.

yea, its two nuts and 5 minutes

the trick is to find the sweet spot where there is no load on the large thru bolt into the strut... a bit of jacking on the lower arm and it will slide right out...the sweet spot is very small. you have to jack slowly

I just replaced mine on my '00 C2--very easy job. Just use the rear jack point on each side to lift the car high enough to put jack stands under the front jack points. That way there's no pressure on the links. Easy out and in with regular tools. The links cost me $50 each from my local independent (Stuttgart Specialists--thanks Tony!). Just don't forget to torque your wheel nuts back to recommend torque. I recommend doing it yourself--both because it's so easy and so that you learn the mechanicals on your car.

Well guys I ran out of time and had my local shop replace the sway bar links for me. Problem is, I still have the same front end "clunk" or noise I had before so the links must not have been the issue. I can and have been able to feel this clunk or noise in the pedals as well as hearing it. Not sure what else to check myself, any suggestions? It starts after a spirited drive of about 10 minutes, so it's like it has to be jarred loose to get it started. once it starts I can feel it over most bumps on the road. Like something is loose up front in the shock or strut. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I enjoy doing what I can. I've read tons on this and just can't seem to figure it out. BTW, the car runs perfect. No shakes or shimmies at all. Please help if you can. thanks in advance.

My "clunk" noise (though I called it a "Thunk") turned out to be a bent Strut. Hope that is not what you are looking at. You could feel it in the chassis as if a header in a 57 Chevy was hitting the frame rail, on the left side. (am I showing my age?) Most pronounced at low speed after the car was driven a bit, and it progressively got worst.

do you have a c4, if so, the strut bearing on top needs to be greased
