Hello All
Well today the wife put the car in the garage and it started leaking, right behind the rear tire near the exhaust tip, I can see that under the tank looks a little wet, so I assume it a crack in teh bottom of the tank (I have a newer cap already). Not a lot of coolant maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a cup before it stopped.

Any idea how long I might be able to drive it before lossing to much coolant nearest indy or pcar dealer is 45 min to an hour away, I live in Windsor ON and would need to cross the boarder into Detroit.

It's a 99 C2 if I try to replace myself will I need to lower the engine?
How difficult is this job?
Cost at indy compared to ordering part and doing it myself?

I'd just replace it yourself if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. There is a write-up on here or renntech that shows you how to replace it step by step. It was pretty simple IIRC. Good Luck.

You can save a bundle by doing it yourself. I paid $209 for the coolant tank for a MY99 Porsche, bought Porsche coolant at a discount and did the job in my garage. I did not lower the engine and the job did take some time to wrestle the tank in/out, but was relatively straightforward. Local Posche dealer would have charged in excess of $1000 to do the job, so I saved over $800 but had to invest a few hours of my time, and I felt it was well worth it to tackle on my own.

Guess I will do this myself, after reading over some of the DIY's it looks do able, and from what I can see I do not need to lower the engine (the 99's had more room to get the tank out?)
Where is the best place to purchase I just checked Pelican and they want $340.00 for the tank
Is the fuel filter right there as well?
Anything else I should replace while doing this job?

I ordered my tank from SuncoastPorsche.com for $205.22 and Porsche anti-freeze for $24.95/gal.

Fuel filter is under the car... There really isnt anything else in that location that is worth replacing... unless the large coolant hose coming from the water pump that connects to the reservoir is on its way out...

u might also try to the bigger tank, which is less expensive, and hold more coolant, i am *not* sure if it will work though.

You're making the right decision to do the tank and avoid driving the car any.

If you don't, if you continue to drive the car the risk is not how long you can drive the car before it loses coolant (though that is a risk or a concern the tank will catastrophically fail and the engine will lose its coolant in one big hurry) but that in continuing to drive the car with the cooling system is compromised and unable to maintain pressure.

It is this pressure that prevents the coolant from boiling.

If it the coolant boils the engine suffers localized overheating and that coolant tank can cost you a head gasket, or a head (crack) or a block/engine.

Fix the tank. Now. If you can DIY fine. If not bite the bullet and have the car towed to a place you trust to do the work.

The OP has a C2, so this is correct.

However, if it is a C4, the filter is right next to the coolant tank (so while you are in there... it's worthwhile doing).

Thanks for the advice guys, I have the parts on order, and yes I went back and read the post about the fuel filter and you are all correct that guy was talking about a C4
In Canada from a p dealer the tank was going to be $439.00 plus 15% tax!!
I'II let you know how I make out

Job's done! and was not as bad as i thought, took my time getting the old tank out and new one back into the right place, took just about 4 hrs from start to finish, total cost for parts about $250.00 (all order from the U.S.)
If anyone is thinking about doing this it is a DIY, it's not hard just take your time, and if I can help out please let me know.
