Learn something new every day. Of course if Porsche had wanted you to see the needle straight up at 5000 RPM they would have designed it that way. LOL!

Seriously, I can definitely see the advantage in hard driving. I hate looking away from the road to see my tach under hard acceleration and I don't know it well enough to tell by sound and feel yet.

That is awful.
Can you back fit a 996 gauge cluster and steering wheel?

Almost all track 911s I've seen have this configuration. And it makes sense since you just have to glance down real quickly to see where you are for redline. As for the speedometer, I can see you being at a disadvantage because the numerals are so close together. I'm so glad in that case the 996 has the digital display as well for speed so it makes it a little easier to keep the revenue collectors away.

Don't dare say that on the air-cooled board or you will be fed to a pack of wild boars!!!

I like the classic 911 dash - sure it doesn't have a modern look to it but it's instantly recognizable and worked quite well for 44 years!

Talking

I had a beauty of a '911SC in Cashmere Beige with Cork Interior that had the gauges tilted exactly the same way. It a "CLASSIC 911", not a 996.

I always wondered why people did that too... till I drove it with a smaller steering wheel...it all made sense, though I am not set on the position yet and may change...its one of those personal taste things...easy to do, easy to un-do...doesnt cost anything

Marc, those shift ***** looks so stupid, I have seen them on several cars and thought WTF!

I stuck it on a month or more ago just to check how it felt (never planning to keep it) but I have to admit, it feels amazing...if you get a chance to drive one or test one out - dont miss, you might like it...I still think they look wrong (something says "GOLF" about them)

thanks on the wheel/gauges - and NOT saying anything about the "you know whats"

Tilting guages = two sec a lap. Not blowing motor by staying under redline ,priceless.

Ed, you can't leave anything alone on your Porsches. You have to be tinkering all the time...Good for you! I like the 'track' look.

What did you change from? the stock wheel? Was it the old trispoke? I dig those. Not so much the momo. That shifter fits in the hand nicely, i had one installed on my jeep when i was 16.
