Size: 42.8 KB I changed my oil/filter yesterday and it took longer than 30 min. to drain. While I was waiting I cut open the old filter(OEM) and looked for any metal or plastic pieces and found absolutely none. Used a new crush washer, installed a new filter and rubber gasket, cleaned the plastic filter cartridge and wiped down adjacent areas. Installed the drain plug and torqued it and the filter cartridge, and filled new synthetic oil. Like Ed, I can slide under easily, if I back my Porsche up to the edge of my garage floor where it overhangs. Went for a ride and my 996 was eager to show its appreciation. Only drove 3,350 miles since my last oil/filter change and that was 9 months ago.

Mad skills Steve......the pic looks like all the parts are posing for the camera.

How about all of you, how long does it take you to change oil on your 996?
Thanks for the tip.
Got 3 cases today at NAPA. =)

I don't jack my car up to change oil.
My driveway is slightly sloped.
I hang my car's rear end over the lip of my garage.

Because of the organic compounds found in synthetic oil it does have a shelf life. There's no sense in buying more than you can use in one oil change. You have to look for the freshness date on the container - like milk.

But if we're talking 3-4 months does it really matter? Plus what about those who actually follow the oil change intervals of every 12k-15k miles? I don't doubt that in time the oil can deteriorate but I just thought that would happen over a period of years and not months.

Got mine today....asked the counter guy about the $5 Mobil 1, he smirked and said, "No". As I walked towards the door, there it was. Bought 2 cases.

I've been buying 5 quart bottles of Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart for less than $25 for years. Is the price going up?

Which weight? I found they only have limited selection in the 5 qt jugs around me at least.
