Cage being built tomorrow, thoughts?
I dropped my car off at Evil Genius Racing here in Sacramento last Thursday with some ideas for a cage. Originally I wanted to do a full cage, but they advised against a full cage unless I never drive it on the street, and I couldn't make a commitment like that.
Here's the list of what they're going to do:
-Remove Carpet
-Remove e-brake
-Remove brackets
-Remove non-factory wiring for speakers/amps
-Remove Sunroof
-Remove factory seats
-Fabricate Brackets for Sparco Evos
-Build back-half cage with X
-Smooth the entire interior out
-Make Panel for the sunroof
-Make nifty door panels with pull latch
-Paint the entire interior white
Total bill $3700-3800

Three Wheelin'
Hi neighbor. That looks like a fun project. I had the interior out of mine to repair a dash fire. I considered gutting the interoir also. I opted for just replacing the factory airbag steering wheel with a momo and installing a roll bar. I would recommend leaving the interior body color....just get a couple cans of your exterior paint and some clear. If your priority is losing weight, get rid of the four airbags. The passenger dash airbag & support weighs a ton. Good luck.

I like your focus on safety, the cage or partial cage is a great start. My 2 cents would be to sit down and think about were you are going with your car over the next few years. I am sure you have already done this several times.
I looks like you want a streetable track car, which will always be a compromise on setup, tires, suspension, cage, etc. and you will most likely move to the next level quicker than you expect (racing or dedicated track car). So plan each step so that you don't blow your budget by redoing the earlier build parts.
Have fun with the project and take photos for us!
Also at some point you will cross the line on what is street legal and what will not pass state inspection.

For that price, you can almost get a spec 944 race car that already has a cage...
If you're going to continue tracking your 996, and driving it on the street, just do the GT3 bolt-in roll bar.
Or, do a full cage in the 996, dedicate it to the track, and pick up another car for a fun driver.

I know
I took the advice from the forum members in the last thread I made, well that is contributing the maximum to my 401k every year, 1 year of expenses set aside, and a $2k budget for car expenses.
I'm only working 84 hours a week

I would just put a very nice bolt in cage unless you are VERY serious about track/racing . Then you would be better off with a GT3.
I went from a 993 to a 928.... its easier $$ to replace if I end up in a tire wall
