Default Bodywork question

As far as I know, my 2002 has never had bodywork, but there's overspray on my frunk and engine lid struts. Is this normal? Seems kinda cheesy for a Porsche to come from the factory this way.

That's not normal at all. Looks like you've been sprayed...

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that this car has been painted at all four corners because the quality of the paint isn't consistent with a partial respray. There's no mismatch of color or any other characteristic. The overspray on the struts suggests that the front fenders, the rear quarters, and the front and rear lids were painted. But if you were going to do that much, you'd respray the whole car, right? But if so, there should be masking lines. But there aren't any, so either the trim and glass were removed, or all the paint is factory. I'm confused.

It is a bit odd. You would think that they would paint all of those components off the car (fenders/hood). Also, silver is easy to match and/or blend into other panels. Just remove the over-spray if it bothers you and call it a day.

OR: the struts were replaced and they were sitting near someone painting something before they were installed on your car... could be a long shot.

there is a possibility that this car's original trunk lid strut was damaged, so the owner replaced it with the used struct.....

I'm the 3rd owner. My only records (from the dealer) are of scheduled service and some door lock and cabrio top issues. Carfax had no mention of any accidents. If it has had bodywork, the work is obviously excellent, so I'm not really bummed out. This just seems like such a mystery. I'll just go ahead and scrape off the overspray and forget about it.

One of the previous owners may have just had some paint work done to fix minor road rash, or to freshen up the paint. It doesn't necessarily have to be in an accident to have paint work done.

Porsche does not paint with anything mounted on the frame. They paint the frame right after it has been dipped in corrossion inhibitor.

I know people who would rather repaint bumbers, hood, fenders than put clear bras...

Paint meter will tell you what happened....

I'm starting to think that's what happened. When I got the car the paint was (and still is) showroom quality, with no obvious wear at all. I think everything was masked off except the ends of the struts, and the fenders were resprayed. Whoever did it did an excellent job because the little bit of overspray on the struts is the only clue. Until I clean it off, that is.
