has nothing to do with cost but more how long i had to wait the first time i order them, over a week.
just ran into a glich where vertex sent the wrong pads and rotors, i put on the rotor and put back the calliper with my new bolts only to triple check the part numbers, call vertex, catch their goof and now i'm just waiting the proper pads/rotors....and will go to the dealership to get 2 more new bolts to replace the newneverusedbutroquedinanyway bolts.
was only asking to see if bolts are just bolts and if they were i could get my car up and running again sooner.

Well, I can understand the desire to get the car back on the road ASAP.

Unfortunately, my experience is when I tried to find a shortcut oftentimes the shortcut caused me more trouble and the car was off the road longer.

This is one reason why I stopped ordering parts online. I ordered brake rotors/pads and found the rear rotors the wrong ones. Luckily the old brakes were still usuable but I had to arrange for a return and box/ship the wrong rotors back and then wait for the new ones.

It all went well, but it took more time, more trouble. Buying local, from a dealer, I have the ability to run right over and swap the wrong parts for the right ones but I have yet to get the wrong parts. Oh take that back. I was given the wrong clear side marker lights for my Cayman S. But plugs, filters, brake rotors/pads and brake hardware, various electrical switches, oil and coolant caps, all have been the right part the first time.

Anyhow, if you have a good fastener company in your area, Fastenal (?) you might consider taking the original bolts in and see if they can match them with same size, diameter and pitch of course, but also the same length and grade.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I was going to say, maybe Home Depot and Lowes aren't the best answer, but if you've got a Fastenal dealer in your area I wouldn't hesitate to stop in.

Some of you guys are hilarious...bolts are just bolts.

If the characteristics of the bolt from Porsche match the bolt from wherever, what's the difference?

I dont think so....unless you have them tested by a metalurgist and can verify major, minor and pitch diameters are the same....bolts are FAR FROM "just bolts"

just cuz they "look" the same and have the same size dont mean squat!

A grade 8 bolt with the same pitch and thread count from Fastenal is just as good as a grade 8 bolt from Porsche.

They melted down all of those old Panzer tanks a long time ago, they're just using the same old steel everyone else is these days.

seriously....?

OK.. ready set go - Home Depot buys the cheatest crap they can, often taking seconds and left over garbage. The bolts they sell are not the same and if you ask ANY bolt dealer they will 100% agree.. if you want to trust your life to a Chinese Bolt to stop you, please do it on another side of the planet, I dont want to nor do I want to think about those bolts failing.

reason is the metal is not the same

the way the threads are produced is not the same

theway they are tested is not the same

there is no accountability or liability for automotive use....if it fails, home depot will not be liable because there stuff is not auot, airplane or submarine quality....infact while on the subject, why not ask a pilot or submarine captain if he wants home depot bolts in this ship... hell they look the same in the little bag...

I am NOT having this conversation, I hate cheap crap PERIOD
