Use the search function "Search this Forum".

Van posted a youtube video of the entire process. Use both "brakes" and "Van" to do the search.

Oh, crap. Before Mike starts whining, I'll be right back with the link.

Here it is.

That's where I bought my IMS upgrade.

Sorry, Alpine. I couldn't resist. I blame Ed for taking down his "guide to noobs" link.

Even at stealer prices, that's only $4. per bolt. Seriously, just pay the extra dollar.

[PS: sometimes I reuse mine even though I have a whole bag of them here at the house...]

It has been a while since I've done my Porsche's brakes but IIRC the dealer sells a hardware brake kit that supplies all new hardware, incuding IIRC new caliper bolts.

You know, the dealership isn't the at fault party here. Porsche sets the prices of these items and charges the dealers lots of money for delivery. My local dealer tells me it eats the delivery charges though these are going up all the time.

I might add I get a discount as a member of the PCA when I buy parts from my local dealer's parts department.

Also, since brakes are a very critical system of the car I do not scrimp when doing the brakes. No one likes spending money needlessly, me included, but the peace of mind knowing I used new and factory hardware for the brakes is worth the premium I may have paid for the bolts from the dealer vs. from some other source.

Plus, not all hardware used on these cars is off the shelf hardware available at the local hardware store. While one might find a new bolt that 'fit' it might be a bit too short, or too long or not have the proper thread coating/finish. Plus there is the grade of the fastener to consider.

In either case of the bolt being too short or too long this can expose the bolt or caliper threads to corrosion and the next time you go to remove the bolt you can ruin the caliper if the corrosion causes the threads to tear.

Since I get 50K miles or more out of my brakes (the Turbo brakes have over 60K miles and I have not had to do them yet) when I go to replace the rotors the cost of using new factory sourced brake hardware plays a minor role.

My primary goal is to do the brakes properly to have the brake system back up to par, to the level they were at when the car first rolled off the assembly line.

Sincerely,

Macster.

One things for sure, I would NEVER consider buying a car from you, knowing that even considered buying a bolt from Depot for brakes on your Porsche.

What are you thinking?????
