broken pressure plate
After a longish drive home I pulled into the garage, turned the car off and when I let out the clutch it stuck in the pedal down position. After about a second it sprang up to normal pedal up position.
All the next week the pedal was kinda funny. Stiff at the bottom and light at the top.
Finally I felt the clutch slip in second gear and parked it.
Pulled the clutch and found the pressure plate diaphragm spring broken.
So, many several hundreds of dollars later, I have collected parts to do the clutch and IMSB retrofit.
Huzzah.

philoo, my 03' 4s has 88k on it. Looks like the clutch is origional.
The friction plate was worn past the wear bars but still far from the rivets. The throwout bearing Was not silky smooth but not bad.
Good eye. I was wondering how long that was going to take.
It's an 89' cab with a stick and bottlecaps.
It can be jealous all it wants. I've already spent more on parts for the 911 than I paid for the Bimmer.

You might wanna throw that IMS bearing in the freezer overnite. I forgot to put mine in the freezer and it was not goin to go in smoothly. Called it a nite at that point, went in with a lot less effort the next morning

Got the bearing flange off today. Somehow I thought it was going to just "pull off". umm...no
Done, thanks.
I suppose that would be the smart thing to do, but no. I'm going to run it untill it fails.
At least that's the short term plan. Will probably turn out to be the long term plan.
I am changing the RMS though (a new one came with the kit)
Besides, I just bought a full set of new rotors and I'm sitting on a thin wallet.
oh by the way, I spent more time fishing today than working on the car.
