the gt3 block won't match up to the tip box. It would be very hard to do, we just went through this will a customer and didn't want to do... lots $$$
buy a 996tt tip, same block as the gt3.

Can be done, but is it worth the effort and money...?
You'll need
-GT3 engine complete with exhaust
-turbo's tip transmission (and maybe it's control box )
-slightly altered engine wiring harness
-custom program for the Motronic
And back to my question up there. If you do it yourself ( and can do it ) and only use professional help for Motronic program consider it as a challenge and proceed. If you need a shop for complete job, you'll either want it bad or have a very thick wallet.
I installed turbo's engine into a 996 C2. Everything works, including the PSM.

Hi Pete,
Another option would be to buy a GT3 and to put the tiptronic of the turbo inside !
Would this not be the best option ?
Do you know if this is technically very difficult ?

So you really want a tip? A GT3 with a tip would be considered blasphemeous and surely lower the resale value...
But back to your question. I really do not know ( actually can't remember ) how tiptronic and Motronic talk with eachother. If there's a CANbus ( IIRC there is ) then there might be some trouble....anyway the main problem would be tip control box and Motronic communication.
IIRC the 996 GT3 mkII has E-gas ( correct if I'm wrong ) and then it also has CANbus output to TB and ABS 5.3. That could be utilized to tip communication and the rest would be just tip ctrl box and Motronic programming for suitable switcing points etc.
GT3 has less torque than a turbo, so that's not the problem, although I can't say anything about GT3's higher rpm limit.
You'd also need turbo tip's drive shafts, shifter, pedals and instrument panel ( some new wiring required ). Some coolant lines would be changed too.
