easiest way , pop the lid and check your throttle body if you see a throttle cable

Only the C4 model has it. After dealing with it for six years now, I'd rather have a cable. It's next to impossible to get the computer to modulate the revs the way I like. Want a quick throttle blip? Too bad, the computer is going to give you 6k RPMs...

the only 996's in US that were cable driven is the 99 c2's.
99 C4's and 00+ 996's are all DBW

Can you explain this? I've never had an issue w/a drive by wire car yet (well, the new Volvo S40 is a bit touchy at lower rpm operation but)...

What about '99 C2s with PSM? Or was that not an option? I thought the DBW was so the PSM could control the throttle. (And all of the '99 C4s have PSM.)

Tooloud, I've driven my '99 C4 for 30k miles, both street and track, and have never noticed any kind of lag or lack of responsiveness. When do you find the DBW intrusive or a problem?

I assumed that DBW cars would suffer from lag and jerkiness...until I bought my first MkII 996.

In fact it's been seamless, tranparent and easy to control. I don't ever give it a second thought.
