2nd Mod of 2011 - IMS Bearing retrofit
#17
The dealer ordered my IMS kit today! I expect the bill to be between 2K-3K depending on if it needs a clutch. The other part I asked to have replaced was the water pump.
Jake Raby has a list of Pre-Directives on flat 6's web site, it was helpful in deciding what maintance to do this spring.

I was thinking about the AOS, didn't know the cost and want to keep my bill under $4k. I'll talk to dealer when I bring it in.
Question, whats in Hershey? Is it car show? and when?
I'm close to Allentown not far away.

Just got my car back from Powertech, paid $3067.12.
That included the IMS Single row, RMS, Oil / Filter, 6 Coil Packs / Spark Plugs and a Neutral Safety Switch (aka clutch switch). The breakdown was $1750.50 Labor (ouch), and $1115.97 Parts. Tax was $200.65. If anyone is interested I could get a scan and post it up for reference.

I replaced the IMS bearing (dual row) in my 2001 Boxster S last September with 48,000 miles on the clock.
The original bearing assembly was in excellent condition - no lateral play, seals in good condition and no brinelling of the races.
But, the oil hes been changed every 5,000 miles since new - Mobil 1 by the OPC up to 36,000 miles, Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 since then.....
Maybe its true - clean, fresh oil every 5,000 miles is a big part in the bearings longevity !
