2nd Mod of 2011 - IMS Bearing retrofit
Well, I guess it's a mod right?
Anyways, had the oil leak and was thinking it was just the RMS..yet.... I had a bad feeling.
Dropped the car off to Rich at ROCS for a LN IMS Bearing retrofit, Clutch..etc...
When he pulled it apart it was indeed the IMS leaking... but everythng looked ok!
Should be ready to pick up by later today.

Well played, sir.
I wish the IMS failure always had an oil leak as a tell-tale warning. I'm holding out for my clutch replacement and keeping my fingers crossed.

That's the next mod coming up for me also.
I have no leak and I had the clutch and RMS replaced under CPO warranty just 5k miles ago. Now that the CPO is expired, it's not as comfortable flying without some type of "insurance".
I have wondered what would happen if my indie hands me a perfect condition OEM IMS bearing and a $2300 bill. I'll find out soon enough.
Marc, do you mind telling me how much this cost you? You can PM me if you would rather not post. Being from the same region, I am curious.
Thanks,
Jim

Guys, The bearing for the 3.6 is $519 from LNE, I think cost depends on where you live and who does your work. I would expect to pay between 2500-3000 for a job like this.
I have found my shops charges to be very fair.
I do not have my final bill yet as I have not picked up my car.

My car has around 60K miles on it. I will try to get some pics of the bearing.

Just pulled a 46k mile bearing, literally perfect shape. However, if somebody local has to have the replacement, I'd do the labor for roughly half what's quoted.

Obviously some people have had issues with failure, but the other side to that coin is an even greater number of those parts are just fine.
I'm glad I changed it, but I think there is more than a little bit of internet hysteria surrounding this problem also.
