Default Top Tranny Bolt Hints and Pep Talk

I started my IMS/RMS/ clutch replacement. I would like as many tips for getting the top tranny bolt out. I can get a socket on it but can't get a ratchet anywhere that allows me to get enough force to loosen it. I'm frustated and giving up for the night and maybe will have a epiphany.

Look for a thread by Cefalu a couple weeks back. If I'm understood him correctly, he got that bolt with like 3' of extensions. (I haven't done this job myself yet, but I'm rigorously collecting data in preparation for it.)

Did it three times. It is a PITA but you can do it. You will require a long extension and lower the rear of the transmission which will tilt the engine down more giving you more working room. Good luck..

Got my tranny out right now. I lowered the trans and used a really long 1/2" extention with a universal socket.

I used all my 1/2" extensions for about 3 ft worth.

Try using the combination of extensions and maybe throw a universal joint in there to change the angle of attack.. I recall at one point especially the top bolt, I had to turn it about 1/8 in at a time.

I got it out. The trick is to lower the transmission first to get the top bolt.

Haha I lowered the trans nose down a lot more than 25mm! But yes, you need a swivel and 3' of extensions. Use all 1/2" drive otherwise they flex too much. Once the tranny is down, that's a good time to unbolt the slave cylinder. The bolts are alot easier to get to.
