Questions about Exhaust mod
I have a 2002 996 and am confused on somethings I have been reading on the forums.
I see people posting 996.2 what is that?
What is a 3.4 can and 3.6 can. Is that the engine size? I am guessing I would be a 3.6 can.
What is the correct way of doing the fister or Gundo mod?
I see different pictures on the forums.
1.
2.
3.
To me #2 and 3 look correct for a deeper voice.
Which way would sound the best for a DD.
Thanks
Copper

996.2 aka 996 MK II cars were built between 2002 and 2005. They have a 3.6 engine, as opposed to the the 3.4 engine in the MK I cars built from 1999 to 2001.
The bottom photo (#3) in your post looks like it is directly from Fister's website.

There are many ways to do this mod, and not any one is "correct". The first photo is what I would call the PSE Hack modification, where a pipe is welded in the same place that OEM PSE would go. It bypasses one chamber of the muffler. The Fister mod is a partial bypass of the entire muffler, not just one chamber. I've got Fister mufflers on my C4S, and I love them. I would highly recommend this route. You can also tell that #3 is a Fister muffler because they are ceramic coated, as offered by Fister. This mod is mostly cosmetic, although it does reduce radiated heat. I had it done to mine.

I am looking at this route - Fister mod. I am just worried that I will get them in and hate them. Then I am out the stock mufflers. Do you know if you try them and dont like if yiou can return them? From what I have read no one returns them but I am sure someone put them on and hated them.
Thanks

Before I did the FisterD mod, I had so many questions ...so I called Darin and he walked me through options, prices and exchange of OE mufflers etc. They are hands down one of the all time best things you can do to make your water-pumper 996 so BETTER.

+1 Fister! Copper I would be shocked, very shocked, if once you got your Fister's back and installed them that you would have any problems. Darin is awesome to work with and his work is superb! Having said that, I'm sure if you didn't like the sound, you could post them for sale in here and they would be gone. You could also most likely get a set of 3.6 cans, un-modified form with the future buyer or someone else. Really, I don't think you will have any issues with the Fister mod..then sound is music, sweet music! GL

copper, you do not have permission to access this page.
Is that because I am a user and not a paid member yet?
