Default A 1 cm scratch?!

Yep; had the car a week. Must have been some mosquito, or a rock. There's a 1 cm scratch on the hood, right upper side. White line on a beautiful midnight blue car. I can unfortunately feel it just slightly with my fingernail.

Ok, so after washing, can I try to compound that out without damaging the paint; go straight to a Dr. ColorChip-type of product; or have someone do it for real?

Not the worse in the world, but it's brand-new to me!

I've done the Dr. ColorChip on my 944 and other family car, and it's worked, but not perfectly.

post a pic, I'd try mild compound before I started throwing touch up paint on it

If there's a "white line" on a blue car, the scratch is through to the primer, so trying to rub it out with compound can only make things worse. There are only two choices, a touch-up or respray the entire panel. Touch-up of a scratch will always be more visible than touch-up of a tiny chip. Provided you follow directions and aren't a slob, it can't hurt to try the Dr.Colorchip way first. If you're not ****/OCD about it, it might suffice, at least until you've got enough more chips/scratches to make a re-spray more justifiable financially.

sounds funny but it will make it less noticeable. Use a fine tipped permanent marker and color the scratch dark blue or even black. It will show up a lot less than white. Works with small chips as well.

FWIW ... If you find you need to touch it up .... My wife has the Mercedes equivalent of midnight blue. I used Dr. Color chip on it last year to repair a number of small chips and scratches and it looks fantastic. It passes the 3-foot test with ease. I've used Dr. Color Chip on many cars and it seems to work best on the darker colors. Good luck!!

Yep; thus the fingernail, was what I was most fearing. I'll try DrColorChip until I need to respray the entire thing. Thanks.

Or just wait a year or two. This won't be the last scratch...

It's a car. They get scratches. If you repaint the hood every time you get a scratch you're going to be broke and still have scratches. If you really want to avoid them have your car wrapped with vinyl.

I had a red car once that had a bunch of chips in the bumper. Found a chip repair kit at Pep Boys by Turtle Wax that had consisted of a colored wax and what appeared to be a red wax stick to rub in the chip to fill it in. Logically, now on the blue P-car I found a blue crayon, aka wax stick, that was closest to my paint color, rubbed it in the chips and from 3 feet away looks perfect.
