The first step is admitting you have a problem.......the cowbell is ringing in my head constantly...Sounds like you had great experience!

Ed, I can see you heading into the point of no return... We will be here if you need intervention (but honestly, we wont be very good at).

Did it look something like this (I think there is an attachment)?

If you have the chance DONT DO IT !!

(you will not want your car back and you will be looking for more ways to increase the "mod budget" - poor family will NOT be getting a few of the things they "thought" they needed, like food and stuff !! )

Heed my warning - if you "like" your car - dont drive one that is more raw

Ed,

Since you're on the edge of the slippery slope what kind of push do you need...

Same applies to driving a friend's GT3... All of a sudden, one's beloved 996 just isn't the same.

Yeah, I made the mistake of driving a 6GT3, I than compounded the mistake by driving a 7GT3 RS ..

mechanic i work with finishes custom build based on 197x something tub with cut off front, totally custom plastic panels all around and gt1 block twin turboed motor which he says will be tuned with somewhat 620-680 horses and minimal lag. running weight will be about of 2600-2400 if I remembered correctly. $110K project. will be fun to see it when it will be ready.

after getting around this sh$t for some time all i can say - imagination is the only limit when it comes to making those cars, people who have enough budget on their hands can definitely do a lot of fun things. key is to maintain sanity and remember that there are more important priorities than to spend all available cash on never ending upgrades.

I drove a 6GT3 before ever driving a base 996...

Just think how I felt! But I still like mine and feel it has "sufficient" power and handling for my needs.

Koni reds installed in the rear tonight - the pile is growing bigger, not smaller

on deck, front Koni Sport with external adjusters - 23 mm sway away hollow front torsion bars - 30 mm sway away solid rear torsion bars - harder bushings front and rear - homemade bump steer - homemade front torsion bar mount spacers (reduce nose drop on braking) - tires (not picked yet) - alignment / corner balance - maybe a homemade strut brace

not like a 996 list, but its my list

not much to see, most parts get covered up or go inside something else (inserts ect) - dont think there will be much in the way of exterior changes, but driving will be night and day

I drove a 964 with RS components on coil overs with big reds and a hot motor tonight after work... really a hot car, really track ready - funny that I like a few things on mine better like the cable clutch and no power steering, and my seats (even though ugly, very functional)... so many Porsche's so little money and time !
