I've used this type before, so far they've held up fine. I really don't get why they make them like this. Both the audi & the porsche have flat jacking points.

I think it is a legacy design for cars with frame rails... but I have successfully used on the jacking points

Sears jackstands have been known to spontanious combust - I would not use those

I found a nice set of flat ones at a Garage sale last summer for $1.50 !! FOR A PAIR! I almost peed my pants I was so happy....before that I had and still have the kind like those in your picture... they work fine, just feels a little wierd like your not using them right, plenty sturdy and safe

I also use a similiar kind but add an old sock or towel in between the jack and car's jacking-point hole. Lower the chassis slowly and check to ensure it the seated nicely.

I use the Sears jack stands, and the only thing I added was to dip the tops in Plasti-dip.

I always put some small soft wood pads between jack stands and anything on the frame. Jacks and stands have been known to cause dings, dents, and abrasions to anything they support. I use hockey pucks between the jack and the points to protect the frame.

My only comment on hockey pucks or soft wood buffers is that these pieces place a potential slip point between the chassis and the jack stand.

This is why I dipped the ends of my jack stands in Plasti-dip. This cushions the mating face between the chassis and jack stand saddle, but does not compromise to anchoring of the car into the jack stand saddles.

Same here. Have the same Craftsman jacks and work fine in both Audi and Porsche
