Question Plugging a hole?

Hey guys,

My '99 966 came with the delightfully overengineered CD holder in the lower half of the center console (just above the little storage cubby). It's cute and all, and it kind of makes me feel nostalgic about the 1990's, but it's also mildly irritating and redundant now that I did the headphone jack cable on the Becker 220.

Is there anything I can get to put in that space? I don't want to do any cutting so it would probably have to be a "factory" accessory, or at least something designed to clip in there. Even another cubby would be more useful than the CD holder, but I'm open to ideas about what others have done with this space.

Cheers,
-- Mike

There is another cubby/storage tray. The mod is very time consuming and complicated. 5 seconds to remove the old, and 30 seconds to install the new, tops.

Do a search, someone posted within the last week.

That's what I figured. I had the center console apart last weekend when I installed the iPod cable, and it looked pretty complicated in there. So much so that I took a full minute and a half to disassemble it.

I had a moment of nostalgia for the three gauge cluster I used to have in my old Scirocco, but the 996 already has a comprehensive set of gauges. The only thing I might want is an oil temperature gauge, but I'm disciplined enough to get the engine good and warm before I romp on it.

What I'd kinda like is a "covered" cubby with a little hinged cover on it, but I don't think that was ever made for the 996.

Cheers,
