As far a Jaguar parts, they really don't seem to be as expensive as Porsche parts. That's what most people I talk to complain about.

I love the way the X-type drives as long as it is the 3.0 with sport suspension either manual or auto trans. AWD & stability control (VSC) work very well. I used to test drive new cars as my full time job & have logged many miles in 7-8 2002 X-types. It is basically a Ford Mondeo in Jag clothing converted from FWD to AWD with a PTO shaft from the front diff to the rear diff. This driveline provides excellant directional stability & quiet operation but I assume the added drag impacts fuel economy. The precise steering makes the car easy & fun to drive rain or shine. Much like the 996 but far less serious the X has some service issues but the engine is essentialy a Ford Taurus transplant formerly the #1 selling car in the US so it should be easy to work on if needed. I would get a PPI from a Jag dealer & enjoy the huge depreciation on this beautiful car that looks as good as any new Jag.

I have an 05 XJR that hasn't had a single issue with over 60k on it, but I agree with the others that the X type has a well earned bad reputation.

I'm surprised by all of the negative comments and experiences considering this car is essentially a Ford in everything but name. I don't recall hearing a lot of negative from the Ford equivalent?

You guys are funny. The only thing that attracted me to the Jag is the AWD and nice interior. That is all my wife cares about anyway.

I can't speak as an owner but I have done extensive drive with the late model XK, XK-R, XF and XF-R and I think they are fantastic car, the R version much so. the XF-R and supercharged are one of my all time favorites. The XK coupe can be had for very attractive prices. The drive is just plain rewarding, of course it is plush but for most commuting, I just love it.
As for why I don't own one myself, I assume I am too scared as well. But I keep looking at them when they are on the lot. one of these days I might be getting one, right after checking the cost of aftermarket warranty on it!

x-type is no longer made by jaguar and was a product of Ford (re-badged Ford Mondeo).
Indian Tata Group now owns jaguar and who knows what they will be doing to support
spare parts for this vehicle.
Bottom line: stay away; it's cheap for a reason. And please don't let Land Rover/Ranger Rover cross your mind either.
If you want something European stick with a
BMW or Merc. There are many independent shops... very few for jags.
As for me, my commuters are always Japanese since I put a lot of miles on them.

first of all its Jag.. Second of all it FORD...
Jag has always been know for its issues. Ford has always been known for its horrid customer service. I would think the marriage is a huge azz f**cking waiting to happen for the owner.
