Jaguar, any good?

Jaguar, any good?
This is a bit off topic but I was looking at another vehicle to replace my Audi. It is a 2005 Jaguar X-type. I know absolutely nothing about these cars. My question is are they any good? easy to work on? Anyone own one before?

I have a buddy who has been a Jag guy for years. They are wonderful cruisers - and the later models (built by Ford) are better engineered and built that the traditional Brits. The Big Jag sedan with Aluminium chassis is very expensive to repair so check your insurance carrier. This would be that same I assume on the late model A8. My view as an Audi owner... the Jag is a real Lux Cruiser. The comperable Audi is more of a drivers car in the same series / model size. Similar performance but a much different driving experience. Drive both and enjoy your choice.

You should be able to pick up a 2005 for an obscenely low price. Do some research. Jag-lovers.com is a good forum.

Yes, today I saw the prices and could not believe my eyes... about $12k for 2005 x-type with 60,000 mi . My allroad is on its last leg before the tranny goes out. I want to dump it before it costs me big bucks to fix. This car will be my wife's (temp driver) and I will drive it when the weather is bad enough for the 996. I glanced at Land Rover's too but I have no love for 12-15mpg. Ugh..

I also heard the jags are lousy needing repair often.

The Jaguar X -type was one of the worst cars in production during it's production life.
Absolute death traps and that was only when they were running.
These cars were created soley for the brand wh*re to say, " I drive a jag".

X-type is not even a real Jag, Euro Ford Mondeo..
Too bad about the Allroad, How many miles? Ours has been rock solid. It's getting a timing belt today. My wife loves the Allroad, I offered her the Cayenne or a new Audi and she said no.

Also, I was not expecting all this negativity about Jag's. I thought they were supposed to be nice.

Why not a mercedes E320 4matic for a station wagon? I think 04 to 06 are the bad years for Mercedes.
I like the infinity G35/37X for an all wheel drive sedan. It will be on my radar when my 325XI calls it quits.
