One key to this whole thread is to pay attention to where you are pointing your car. With my X74 I added the engine protection plate.......but I have yet to bottom out.

Another thing to add is that had Jasper fried the motor due to a cracked sump cover and oil loss I believe this would be covered by auto insurance.

Glad it all worked out.

Follow up...

The X-51 oil pan arrived, and it's good. A snap to install of course, except for one bolt head which had been ground down pretty good by the REPEATED bottoming out that I have been doing but not noticing.

I tell you the bottom of that pan looked like hell. For that matter the inside looked like hell too. The casting of the new pan was noticeably better.

Here's a bunch of comparison photos of the old and new pans. Note the different part numbers of the sump plate, which is odd. Dimensionally they are identical.

Actually when I look at the photos I see they are not identical. The X51 pan has a couple of tabs which may be for reinforcement.

Here are the photos of my crack. It's hard to see in the photo but it's there by the drain plug.

Jasper- Thanks for the pics. Will you also be installing the Porsche 'belly' pan for future protection?

Well the thought has certainly crossed my mind.

I just hate adding weight though and I'm sure it's ugly.

I wonder if anyone can post a pic ? Depending on this and that I might even fab one up.

Jasper, I see that your old pan has a baffle attached to it similar to that of the X-51 pan. Is that stock?

I was under the impression that the stock pan was flat on the top(engine) side. From your photos it appears that the stock baffle would do an even better job of containing/concentrating oil than the X-51 pan.

This is what it looks like. Bolts into the oil pan using existing holes and bolts. I have one and its not very noticeable. You can also change your oil with it in place. It weighs a couple lbs. if that.

I know what you're saying, but far be it from me to second guess Porsche Motorsport. The X51 has higher baffles right-left, front-back the X51 has none where stock does.

One of the things that stands out though is that the X51 has those two extensions which tie in to the case. Notice the rubber flaps are more securely fastened on the X51 too. My stock flaps fine mind you.

Interesting piece...for $250 compared to $180 I figured what the hell.
