You may be much happier with a Viper.

Sounds like you need a GT2RS.
Better yet, register for a DE and enjoy what the car does best. I think you will like the sensation of hard cornering, braking AND accelerating better than only one of the 3.

This is not to say I'm not happy with the Carrera. When considering what to purchase, the other bigger engined cars had drawbacks that drove me to the Carrera.

1. Mileage. The gas mileage on the 3.6L 6cyl isn't great (compared to a 4 cyl) but it has to be a lot worse in a V8 or V10.

2. Configuration. The rear engine feels a lot better, like it's pushing you forward rather than the front engine/rwd configuration that feels like the drivetrain is having to push its' own engine in the front (hard to articulate)

3. Handling. Rarely does the opportunity to race surface. More frequently I enjoy the fact that I almost never brake when going into a turn, even at 90 degrees

4. Appearance. I prefer the 911 look and so do the ladies. Although I've been extremely disappointed ever since Porsche emasculated the 911 by offering that measly pop-up spoiler in lieu of the classic whale tail

Did you happen to use the Google machine and type "0-60 times"? It's like magic.

My Corvette had over 400hp and certainly got much better gas mileage than a 996... Though only around 8mpg on track where the 996s seem to get ~11.

The turbo is really the car to get. It has both the maneuvering that Porsche is known for along with enough acceleration that can compete with the big boys.

2300cc may be right in that I bought the wrong car. I should've held out (read saved up) for a turbo
no matter what you drive, please don't be sucked into public street racing...take it to the track where it belongs.

I'm thinking you must be related to some deity to perform such magical acts

Cost of a used 996 911... around 30,000 dollars
Cost of a track weekend... around 500 dollars

Monitoring your gas mileage while on a racetrack....priceless!

I just think it's interesting. Most well tuned motors have comparable fuel mileage if they're making the same power. I imagine a Corvette driven at part throttle to make only 320hp would get far better fuel mileage than a 996 at full throttle. This is probably why the Corvette gets incredible mileage on the highway if you can keep from getting on it, the car's barely idling at 70-80mph in 6th. I think I've seen as high as 35mpg on a long trip. I've never seen more than 28-39mpg in any 996. Oddly, the GT3 seems more fuel efficient than the C2 or the turbo...

35 from a Corvette is incredible! Even with cruise control, I've only managed about 25 from my c4s.

I get about 6 MPG on the track and around 22 MPG on the street in my GT3. My old C2 was a tad better.

The best I get with cruise set is 25 MPG. You want to talk about a PIG. The Viper. I did a drive with a few about a year ago. We stopped for gas TWICE. I never even filled during the entire trip.

If you enjoy the handling so much, take the car to a track. Once you improve your driving skills, it won't really matter who's faster than you in a straight line.

The "classic" whale tail is only classic on the Turbo; the original 930 was equipped as such to fit an intercooler and improve high-speed stability. Since you like both whale tail and bench racing, a newer Turbo has the look and bragging rights you seek. I, for one, prefer the truly classic 911 rear profile sans wing. You can always raise your spoiler and pull the fuse, or go for an aerokit if you want to keep it classy.

And those poor ladies, surely they regret choosing your 911 and you over the Vipers and Vettes, then getting back to your place and discovering your handle is "Mister Quickie."
