2000 996 C4 Battery Help Needed
Folks,
My apologies, I did try to do a search, but wasn't able to find the details for my exact car. I have a 2000 C4 convertible and the Porsche Moll battery is dead and will not take a charge.
Since the car is dead in my garage, I'm not able to take it anywhere, and have thought about changing it myself. Please keep in mind, I'm not very handy, and worried I may be bitting off more than I can chew. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest a direct replacement to the battery I have now, and possibly explain how to replace it? In doing a search, I know there is a hold down plate, etc... Not sure how the battery is held down, and where to unhook it.
I'm grateful for any advice/help, and my apologies to the group if this has been addressed elsewhere and I missed it.
Thanks,

Open the front trunk. Remove the plastic center cover where the battery is by turning the *****. Next you will need a 13mm wrench or ratchet/socket (ideal) to remove the battery. Remove the little vent line that is plugged into the battery by pulling it off. Remove the bracket on the passenger side of the battery near the bottom of the battery (holds the battery to the tray (13mm wrench). Next use a 10mm wrench and remove the battery cables. I typically do the negative first. Once they are off, you can pull the battery out. You kind of have to tilt it to get out of the tray, then lift straight out.
Replace with a group 48 battery. Do not use a factory Molle battery, they are horrid. Any interstate, duralast, etc will do just fine and be 1/3 the cost.
You will likely need to enter your radio code when you have the new battery in.

I would go to your local autoparts store and see what they have. Some carry duralast, some carry interstate, etc. Usually they are listed by warranty, so you might have a group 48-36 (36 month warranty) or a group 48-72 (72 month warranty), etc. I typically don't buy the cheapest battery, or the most expensive, but usually something in the middle in regards to warranty. There are only about 3 battery manufacturers in the US that make all the car batteries sold here. They are just relabeled from brand to brand. The key to a battery is keeping it cycled on a regular basis and don't let it sit for long periods of time without at least a trickle charger on it.
