Default 997 nav retrofit for 996

Can a 997 radio nav unit be retrofitted into a 996?

I doubt it, depends on what year. the 996 had 2 or 3 different optic systems and I dont think any are the same as a 997

It would be way, way, way cheaper to put in an aftermarket system, and it would probably work better too.

It's an out dated/cheap system, after market is way better.

I have asked my dealer tech, and the answer was no.
He also opined how terrible the 997 Nav is - and I have to concur. I had a dealer provided 2010 Cayenne with the same Nav/Audio system equipped in the 997s.

For starters, the phone system requires you to put in your SIM card. That is circa 1990's technology. That's right - NO BLUE TOOTH.

Secondly, the Nav is way less sophisticated than the aftermarket Kenwoods etc.

Do a search on Double Din head unit on this forum you'll see everyone's done a really clean double din head unit install from Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. It looks factory.

Get a portable unit. They're better, transportable, and getting cheap enough to be disposable. I have a Garmin 3790, it's about the same size as an iphone.

Hi everyone. So I installed the PCCB+ unit which works perfectly. Can read all functions from the car on it, use Apple play, radio, etc.

A few weeks later I got the SD card. I installed it, and started the configuration wizard. Once through the wizard basics, it tells me I’m done, and then the whole thing crashes with a message stating “Unfortunately, iGO Navigation has stopped”. Once I click ok it reboots and does it all again.

Anyone ever see this? Btw, I retraced the GPS location (in a-pillar) to confirm it was clear and wires were not damaged. Also pulled the unit to confirm connection was solid / in the unit, which it is. I am thinking maybe the GPS or SD card is bad - please let me know if you have ideas…
