Where Do I Put The Jack?

Porsche tires wear 2:1 (rears:front)
dont know prices but you can figure if your fronts are 50% they will last another set of rears - so do you want to go that route or swap out all 4 and then buy new rears when the fronts are 50% again
you have to figure the costs accociated with each choice

Go for the cheaper Sumis......better value. If you get rears to match your fronts than the next will be the fronts you replace. Its a nasty cycle thing. Make a clean break.....from one who is also on a budget.

for ~ $650 and be done... the Sumis are what I went with too...
just feels good to have all new rubber - that circle of questioning the rubber isnt good 0- but depending on your budget... you might have to choose the way the works for you

Also look at the DOT code on the front tires to see how old they are.
If 5yrs old or more another reason to get all 4 replaced

my moto is to use the cheapest tires simply because they all wear out so fast. If you were racing for elapsed time, you may shave off some seconds with better softer compound tires But for driving the car to work, you need mileage. So buy cheap ones and you can afford to buy another set in a couple years. try tire-easy.com

You can also use the front jack point to raise the car high enough to put a jack stand on the rear jack point. Repeat this procedure on the other side.
I looked at tire-easy.com There wasn't a single tire there that I couldn't find cheaper somewhere else!

I drove into the garage last Wednesdy night and found my driver-side rear tire flat. The inside had worn a lot more than the outside, which I guess is normal for these cars, and blown out. Not sure how far I drove on the flat tire maybe as much as a mile. Amazing how well the car handles with a flat at low speed. Hopefully my wheel is undamaged.
So I went online and was going to order Bridgestones from tire-rack but before I did I located the nearest shop to do the install. The local shop had the same tires for the same price with free shipping and reduced cost to mount and balance than what was quoted from Tire Rack. I went ahead and ordered them through the local shop which makes me feel bad for Tire Rack because they seem to be such a great outfit to work with, sorry.
I decided to order all four tires because my fronts are getting pretty worn, and now I will have all 4 tires be of the same brand and type which will allow me to go to the track now.
While I'm waiting for the tires to come in, gives me time to replace the passenger door lock mechanism which has a bad microswitch, and replace my oil pressure sensor which occasionaly gives off the heart-stopping 'failure indicator' warning.
I'm eager to see how the car handles with new rubber.

Here's the best method to fully jack up a 996/7 without a proper hoist.

Once you replace the tires, you won't believe the ride difference! I thought I needed major suspension work and couldn't hear my radio any more. New set of tires fixed that. I got the Sumis also. However, if only changing the rear, don't mix brands. It's tacky and won't ride well.
