Thanks for the input on the Fister-Ds! I have dropped them a line, but I think these are the ones I will order.

FYI, yes, I have spent hours reading up on this on RL, as well as the other two: RT and 6Sp.

WHAT I WANT:
1) a more mechanical sound, but not much louder at idle;
2) not much, if at all louder than stock at low rpms;
3) transitioning to some bark, but not wake the neighbors, above 3000 rpms;
4) not crazy at higher rpms;
5) overall, more aircooled and mechanical, and less eggbeater.

WHAT I DON'T WANT:
1) loud when I leave the subdivision at low rpms on an ice cold engine at 7:15 AM;
2) annoying loud at mid-range;
3) drone;
4) wake the dead loud at high rpms.

I am 49 years old, not a track junky, and just want to bump up the old school, mechanical component of my engine's song. Increased decibels are mostly a negative. Increased sound quality is the plus. If the sound "note" I want costs me a significant increase in loudness, I don't want it............

So, what do you folks recommend? (anything will be TIG welded stainless...)

1) muffler cap/nipple to outlet at the same diameter as the factory exhaust;
2) variant, e.g., 2" hole in can cap/nipple to 2.25" or 2.5" pipe to outlet;
3) 1.5" inlet to outlet;
4) larger pipe inlet to outlet?

Leave it alone completely because I don't want a ton of extra noise,and that is the tradeoff for better sound?

Thanks for any input.

David,

Just remember that Darin's (FisterD) Stage I is the same as the MK II Porsche mod and Darin's Stage II is the same as Porsche's MKI mod .

I hope this clears things up!

OK, seriously, the MK I mod (Darin's Stage II) is usually done on 3.4 mufflers, while the MK II mod (Darin's Stage I mod) is usually done on the 3.6 mufflers.

Don't do the MK II mod on the 3.4 mufflers because it is not worth the effort for a minimal change in sound. I did this on 3.4 mufflers.

Either mod (MK I or MK II) will sound good on 3.6 mufflers.
