Default 19" Rims on a 99

Hi All,
I'm thinking about getting OEM Lobster Claw

Front Wheel:Size: 8.0Jx 19 Offset: 57 Front Tire Size: 235/35/19 Michelin pilot sports.
Rear Wheel: Size: 11Jx 19 Offset: 67 Rear Tire Size : 285/30/19 Michelin pilot spots

For my 99 Manual Coupe. Regarding Offset I think they'll fit but I'm not sure if that's the only consideration I should have.

My car is not lowered and I'm fine with it at stock height. Down the road I may want to track it, but nothing serious. Just learn to drive it better.

I use the car as a daily driver rain snow shine. I've got winter tires for the snow though... thanks for your input.

Cheers,
Jeff

on my C2 Cab, I have the Carrera Classics, same offsets as the "claws" you mention. I know sidewall differences exist among just as many tire manufacturers, so I'm not sure how the 285/35/19's will look on the rear.

I can't remember if I initially tried 285/35 ( or even 275/35) rear tires. Way too small on the 11 inch wide rims!
I went with Vredestein Sessanta 295/30 19 and am much happier with the look; I wouldn't go any smaller. FWIW, you may also want to consider wheel spacers F + R to give the car a better stance, not to mention better tracking.

I also am at stock height with stock suspension ( on a cab tho)

So provided I get the correct tires I won't be needing spacers... Are spacers a bad idea or anything detrimental to running with spacers?

no, no ...the tires have to mount and fit properly on the wheels without looking too "stretched" , or like rubber bands...which will = a very harsh ride..

The spacers will allow you to bring the wheels more flush to the wheel well, so they don't look tucked in ...

just trying to sort out some confusion.

There are some wheels with the proper backspacing that will already bring the wheels flush to the wheel well, so no spacers should be req'd. You can use those OEM lobster claws without spacers.

This is just me but.....I've had my 2003 C2 for 20 days now and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it has sport suspension along with very cool Porsche wheels that turn out to be 18". Sad to say, I'm a little disappointed with the low profile tires and the ride they produce. I'd rather have 17". 19" would be even be worse. I know they look cool, but for me I'd rather have a nicer ride.

dennis, could you post up a pic? 18's look perfect on a Pcar, there shouldn't be a need to go to 17's. What make and size are your current tires? They might be too low of a profile.

I am considering trying some 245/35 and 305/30 F + R on my car; as Dan mentioned, maybe a little too much added weight in the corners, that the 996's weren't designed for. but that could be countered with some Fikse, or other lightweight wheels.

Okay so I don't want to blaze a new trail here. If you have this setup on your c2 and it's working I'm pretty sure I'll go the same way with the oem claw rims.
235/35/19 up the front. If I want I can put a 7mm spacer for appearance.
295/30 19 in the back, no spacers.

Is your car the mkI or mkII? How long have you been with this setup? No other problems with suspension. I should be able to occasionally track the car (learn to drive) too eh?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Yes, go with that wheel and tire setup. mounted/balanced and try them without spacers. If they look and drive fine, your golden. I tried 13MM spacers up front and noticed the car tracked alot better, then I added 7MM spacers in the back. looks aggressive, not much change in handling characteristics.

FYI, Mk1-99-01, Mk2-02-04
