OK - that's just wrong

I think the question you have to ask yourself is what do you wan the car for... if you get hooked on DE's and start modding stuff then you should get a "simple car" that may have a few cosmetic issues and spend the savings on upgrades. Seats, suspension, brakes, ect - I see a lot of cars passed up for worn driver seat... hell, I'm taking that thing out anyhow!!

in fact I would even consider an interior removal for my next car... or this one

+1 for the 996 iteration GT3. One heck of a car. My buddy's GT3 was putting out 415 at the crank with just modest improvements. I drove the car only once- it was wickedly fast and amazingly docile in handling.

If a GT3 isn't in the budget, I guess Bruce Anderson's statement, "Buy the newest you can afford," probably makes sense. Enjoy your hunt!

Clearly it's the '99, Arctic Silver, with LSD.

At least for now.

I am not gonna lie, I am slim but after driving the 996 for about 3 hours straight I felt like I was run over by a dump truck after I got out. The seats pinch your body too much.

want to drive a bargain, take the 996, I think great car as a first 911, to get a feel of the rear engine car. The newer car always drive better. Times does take its tool on everything. The newer car are sharper drives. 997 C2S, the best of everything, rear wheel drive, light, enough power for everyday and some. Gt3 is for track junky only. TT if you live somewhere you can use its power...germany may be

well like I mentioned, I may consider selling the 944 when the time comes, or keep it around for auto-x/race-car stuff

I'll definitely take my time with finding the right car, I love the look of the 996, don't know if I'd be able to get a Turbo or a GT3 though

kind of the reason why I asked if the differences between the models are that noticible; and now that they are around 10 years old for the models I am looking at - would you feel safe with buying an early car rather then late?

thanks guys!

The MK2 is worth the price delta in my opinion. Good luck.

If I had a 35k budget it would definitely be 996tt or an entry level 997. Probably the 997 because I like the styling, the interior is nicer, and I buy into the line of thinking that says to purchasie the newest PCar you can afford.

I checked on cars.com for giggles earlier this week, and didn't see a single 997 listed below 40k. I'm sure you can get one done for near 35k, but it may take some looking.

If I was going to become a track junky, I would probably find a mechanically sound 996 with a cosmetic issue or two to keep the price down, then mod the crap out of it.

If you track, gt3.

If you DE a little, and DD and want to use in on all surfaces and, for about 8k, get it to 550hp and 580lbft....via a flash, exhaust, and perhaps some suspension...the turbo...with that it is up to current supercar standards and perhaps more. I have an 02. It "lacks" fiber optic audio...making an upgrade cheap.....

The mk1 carbon disks are not thought of highly in the track circles....for a street driven car, they may take a lot to heat up, but they'll probably last a LONG time.

These are both gt1 block engined cars. I have a turbo and feel like it will go for 300k miles. Since I am at 45k now, it will last me a few decades. Tank.

And, some have pretty cool interiors even by 997 standards.... (my car in the picture....I'd rather have a 996 turbo than a 997 NA car other than a gt3).

there were a couple of them before New Year's, I'm sure that in a year or so this will change slightly; I've heard that line before - and that's kind of my take on this too - I would want to buy the newest I can get for the $$$, but still with decent milage/condition

996 turbo's are all TT correct? how are they maintenance wise?

that is a VERY nice interior, wow!
